WINE AGING AT ALLEGRO WINERY

This image was done in pastel for the label of Allegro Vineyards in Brogue, PA. Owner Carl Helfrich asked me to design a label for this years Cadenza Wine. Cadenza is a dry red wine that is not made every year because it is dependent on the harvest. Carl sent me some beautiful photos his wife had taken and we both thought this was a different approach to this year label. Carl usually has a local artist work on the project so I was thrilled he asked me to do it. I will post the finished label as soon as I see it and also drink a glass or two to toast the project.

FOG RISING

This is a pastel that measures about 16 X 20. It was done for a client that  liked my old business card and wanted to purchase the original which is already sold. The business card is the one that has my Fly Fishing painting on it. The Fly Fishing, was a small watercolor using slightly different color and with the fisherman in a different pose. I changed it and did it in pastel because I thought I could get the fog to really look like mist rising from the water. I did this by spraying the background with a fixative, then I place some white pastel at the waterline and used my fingers to push the white chalk up into the trees. I was so pleased with it that I am now working on a series of pastels that are some what similar. I am thinking of doing some cattails, some birds and a deer but not in the same picture. Stay tune to see what happens.
