WINE AGING AT ALLEGRO WINERY

This image was done in pastel for the label of Allegro Vineyards in Brogue, PA. Owner Carl Helfrich asked me to design a label for this years Cadenza Wine. Cadenza is a dry red wine that is not made every year because it is dependent on the harvest. Carl sent me some beautiful photos his wife had taken and we both thought this was a different approach to this year label. Carl usually has a local artist work on the project so I was thrilled he asked me to do it. I will post the finished label as soon as I see it and also drink a glass or two to toast the project.

FOG RISING

This is a pastel that measures about 16 X 20. It was done for a client that  liked my old business card and wanted to purchase the original which is already sold. The business card is the one that has my Fly Fishing painting on it. The Fly Fishing, was a small watercolor using slightly different color and with the fisherman in a different pose. I changed it and did it in pastel because I thought I could get the fog to really look like mist rising from the water. I did this by spraying the background with a fixative, then I place some white pastel at the waterline and used my fingers to push the white chalk up into the trees. I was so pleased with it that I am now working on a series of pastels that are some what similar. I am thinking of doing some cattails, some birds and a deer but not in the same picture. Stay tune to see what happens.

Michael's Frog

Michael's frog is a painting that was purchased many years ago. It was painted originally in oil but as the picture became lost I repainted it, over the original, in acrylic. This was a very large painting maybe 54 inches high by 40 wide. I have since painted several frogs because I just love them.

PENGUINS FRIENDS

This is a pastel I did last year of some friendly penguins. I did a lot of research to find several penguins in different views. The original is about 10 inches high by 40 inches long. I still have it in my studio, just because I love it.

Conoy House in the Snow

This is a commissioned pastel of a log house in Elizabethtown, PA. Jim Showers the owner had seen my print of the Hans Herr House  and wanted me to do his house like that one. I had done that at night and in the snow. I like the little side element that is silhouetted on the left side of the house. Jim has a lot of unusual artifacts about his home

LOOK AT THAT!

This is a small painting taken
from the cover of a daily
prayer book I received.
I was sitting at a show
with my little watercolor
pad and started it in
watercolor. Later at
home I used some colored
pencils just about everywhere.

LANCASTER FARMLAND

I just love the colors in this painting. So much that I am working on a long thin one with cows in it. Actually the  day I was out there photographing there were a lot of cows laying around. It is a watercolor and about 9 by 12 inches.
